Pastors lobby for prayers ahead of Malawi fresh election
Pastors from various churches in the country are calling upon all Malawians to pray for the most anticipated presidential elections coming ahead saying God should be at the center of everything before and after the polls.
The presidential elections will be repeated following the annulment of last year’s poll results.
Tuesday’s polls pit incumbent President Peter Mutharika against Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) who has the support of an opposition Tonse Alliance including and the UTM.
A third hopeful is little-known Peter Kuwani of the Mbakuwaku Movement for Development.
Speaking in an interview, Pastor Symon Chiwere of Lilongwe-based winning ways worship center, said it is the right of every citizen to vote, however in most cases the outcome of voting have always been a challenge for people to accept thus there is a need to pray for the upcoming elections.
“As Christians, we have all what it takes to change and affect our country for the better through our prayers. Let us rise up in the spirit of prayer,”he said.
Evangelist Richard Zinyongo said leadership comes from God and people are ordained in spirit by God before they become leaders, therefore, people should be geared to accept the results and then move on as one nation.
“We cannot tell them whom to vote for but we can encourage them to pray and God will answer the prayers and provide the deserving leader,” he said
Miracle Media International Ministry Leader Apostle Peter Banda said with or without elections Malawians will still be Malawians and whatever we do before or after elections should be about building the country not to destroy.
“There is no other place we can call home than here. Let us take responsibility to build not to destroy our only country. It is the role of every citizen to preach peace, tolerance and development because hate speech, divisions and tribalism will take us nowhere,” he said
Banda further appealed to political leaders to prepare their followers now, that every race there is always one winner and to accept the results is supreme and maturity in the race and that winners should always celebrate with responsibility.
