Presidential Charity Golf tourney beat K400m target

The 2023 Presidential Charity Golf Tournament has beaten the K400 million target, a development that has delighted President Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

The tourney has grossed K406 million owing to the unwavering support the private sector gave.

President Chakwera said he was humbled with the positive response from the corporate entities.

“The golfing community is back at the 18-hole Lilongwe Golf Course for the annual Presidential Charity Golf Tournament. This is a fundraiser initiative I founded last year to support needy and deserving students in public universities and offer humanitarian assistance to communities affected by Cyclone Freddy,” he said, adding: “What is even more gratifying about this year’s tournament is that at tee-off we had already beaten the K400 million target.”

On 14 June 2023, President Chakwera through his Presidential Charity Initiative (PCI) handed over a total of K120 million to 427 needy university students from 6 public universities of MUBAS, LUANAR, MZUNI, UNIMA, MUST, and KUHES to help them settle their fees and access to some necessities in pursuing their education.

Making the donation at a ceremony that took place at Kamuzu Palace in the Capital Lilongwe, President Chakwera said good start is a greatest gift that one can give out, adding that having potential or skill is not enough if there is no one to offer support, resources, freedom, and encouragement to get started.
