Prisoners escape serious injuries in Zomba accident
Dozens of prisoners being transported in a bus, as well as guards watching them, were injured on Thursday when a bus carrying them was involving in an accident in Zomba.
Report says the driver of the vehicle lost control after noticing that there was another car coming on his front at the junction.
“So when he discovered that there was another vehicle ahead he then lost control and found in the drain,” an eye witness told Nyasa Times
They however said ” there are some injurries especially the prisoners.”
The development led to the verbal war between the prisoners and prison warders as the inmates thought the accident was a deliberately one.
“The prisoners started insulting the warders while denying to go anywhere apart from asking the authorities present to release them claiming the prison service have failed to keep them.”
The eye witness did not know where the inmates were being taken, where they came from or for what crimes they were serving sentences.
Prison spokesman could not immediately comment.
Cases of road accidents are reported to be rampant especially this year.
