Prof John Saka is new Vice Chancellor University of Malawi
University of Malawi (Unima) has a new Vice Chancellor. He is Professor John Kalenga Saka.
Professor Saka replaces Emmanuel Fabiano whose next move was not immediately established Wednesday.
Social media was awash with Professor Saka’s new appointment and former Chancellor College Academic Staff Union (Ccasu) president Sunduzwayo Madise confirmed the appointment in his posting on the civil society chat forum civsoc where he wrote: “UNIMA has a new VC. And he is Professor John Saka.”
University registrar Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga, in his communication to principals and registrars of constituent colleges, said Saka’s appointment is with effect from December 2 2013.
“I write on behalf of council [of the University of Malawi] to inform you that Professor John Kalenga Saka is our new vice-chancellor with effect from 2nd December 2013
“I, therefore, invite you to join me in congratulating Professor Saka for making it into the Vice-Chancellor’s office,” said Malunga in the communication dated November 26 2013.
Congratulatory messages started flowing immediately with one writing: “Congratulations Prof Jon Saka! I wish you well in your new job and hope UNIMA will see less turbulence, believing that UNIMA is now in good hands.”
Professor Saka is the current chairperson of the Malawi University of Science and Technology.
He was heading the Chemistry Department at the Chancellor College.
