SA’s Emtee to headline Malawi UMP Awards and festival

South Africa’s hip-hop artist, Emtee is expected to lead the line-up of perfomers for this ywar’s Urban Music People (UMP), it has been confirmed by Nde’feyo Entertainment and Nzika Arts, producers of UMP Awards and Festival .

The awards will be held on Saturday evening 18th November, 2017 at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe while UMP Festival will be held the following day, on 19th November at Blantyre Sports Club in Blantyre.

Emtee is expected to join the list of local artists that have been engaged to perform at the two events.

The organizers have engaged Lulu, Piksy, Bucci, Theo Thomson, Hazel Mak and Malinga to perform during the UMP Awards while Sonye, Gwamba, Martse, Saint, Street Fame, Tuno, Charisma, Rita, Hilco, Episods, Pinky Ice, JJC and Suffix will perform at the UMP Festival.

“We are elated to have Emtee as our international headliner this year. He is a major name in African Hip-Hop. Having him on board signals our intent to expand the appeal and reach of the Awards and Festival within the country and beyond the borders,” comments Ken ‘Zizwa’ Limwame, UMP Awards and Festival CEO, also Nde’feyo Entertainment Director.

“We are sure urban music fans will be equally excited to see him perform for the first time in Malawi.”

Born in Mtatiele, a small town in the Eastern Cape, Mthebeni eMtee Ndevu aka ‘’Emtee Da Hustla” to his fans, is a pure talent that has taken South Africa by storm. The 23-year-old rapper discovered his passion for spitting catchy rhymes at the age of 9 at Yeoville primary school during a talent show in 2001.

He participated in musical activities from joining the choir to taking part in school plays. Emtee completed matric at Barnata high school where he became the youngest choir conductor. This earned him awards and first income at 17 at provincial competitions for his school and his Marimba band.

Emtee is best known for his debut hit single, “Roll Up”. He is currently signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment, a South African independent record label.

UMP Awards and Festival Timeline:

15th October–UMP Night: Nomination party, Fashion Show and Media Awards at Game Stores (Blantyre) underground car park.

18th November –evening–UMP awards (BICC).

19th November–afternoon–UMP Festival (Blantyre Sports Club).

UMP Festival is a celebration of Malawi’s urban music, lifestyle and culture. The UMP Awards is a ceremony that recognizes Malawi’s exceptional urban music talent.

You failed to mention that he has a hit song that was ‘stolen’ by local artists, most people assume Kawale is an original composition.
