Satanism suspected at school, students torch teacher’s house

Malawi Police say they are investigation arson attacks by students of Nachitheme Community Day Secondary School in Ntcheu who set ablaze the house  of their head teacher on Monday accusing him of practising satanic rituals.

Alice Sankhulani, spokesman of Police in Ntcheu said the students suspect Christopher Mchuchu, the head teacher of the school, is responsible for the death of two girl students two weeks ago.

The students also accuse Mchuchu of luring students  to be involved in satanic activities.

“We are investigating the matter. The students suspect Mchuchu  through his alleged Satanism cult  is responsible for the death of the two students who passed away two weeks ago,” said Sankhulani.

Police spokesman said the students damaged a lot of household items in their head teacher’s house when they torched it but could not give the value of the damaged items.

Mchuchu and his family managed to leave the house before the house was burned .

Suicide

In another development, the Police spokesman  also said a Ntcheu Community Day Secondary teacher, Mabvuto Phiri was  found dead in his house after hanging himself with a rope.

Sankhulani said police found the deceased mobile phone with an SMS reading ‘nafwa kuti nikapumule’  which is Tumbuka language translating to “I have died to rest.”

According to police, Phiri  had a week earlier dragged his only 25- year-old  daughter to court to restrain her from getting married. The court ruled in favour of the girl that she could not be prevented from exercising her right to marry being an adult.

Phiri, 50, hailed from Ali Phiri Village in the area of Traditional Authority M’Mbelwa in Mzimba.
