Silver Strikers make bid for free-agent Sangala
Malawi TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers are chasing the signature of Flames defender James Sangala to strengthen their side.
The Bankers are interested in the experienced former Mighty Wanderers central defender, who is a free agent after his contract at Angolan Club Benfica de Luanda, was not renewed last month.
Silver Strikers official confirmed of the team’s interest in Sangala.
“Everybody would like to sign him. He is a good player with a lot of experience. When he was in the country a few weeks ago, I contacted him and encouraged him to retire at home. He said he would give me feedback at a later date,” Mike Tembo, Silver General Secretary, said.
He said they were optimistic of securing his signature although he is not willing to join a local club.
“If he shows interest to play for a local club, we will sign him. If we lose Lucky Malata to Bidvest Wits, Sangala would be a good replacement,” he said.
Tembo also added that they were still courting Civo to sign defender John Lanjesi.
Tembo indicated that they would sign the players during the second round transfer window.
Sangala was drafted in the Cosafa Castle Cup squad being played in Zambia but the often hot headed player received marching orders in the first half of the quarterfinals against Zimbabwe.
He missed the plate section match against Angola, which the Flames also lost 3-2 after giving the lead twice in the game.
