Silver’s Chawanangwa Kawonga in South Africa for trials
Silver Strikers star striker Chawanangwa Kawonga left on Friday to undergo trials at South Africa’s top league side Maritzburg United.
The Under-20 national team star left a day after inspiring his team to thrash Airborne Rangers 5-0 with a brace to move out of relegation.
However Kawonga’s brief trials had come in between his Malawi Schools Certificate of Education examination which started last week Tuesday.
Silver Strikers chairman McDonald Mwale admitted that his involvement in the MSCE examinations could disturb him.
“He is South Africa for trials and will be back on Tuesday ready for his next examinations,” Mwale said.
“Of course the trials could disturb him preparing for his next examinations but not necessarily the entire examinations.”
Kawonga becomes the second player from Silver after Green Harawa to go for trials this season far.
Harawa went to Botswana for Township Rollers trials two weeks but he is also linked with a number of teams in the Diamond-rich nation.
This season, a number of Malawian players have been spotted for professional trials with Bullets Under-20 defender Miracle Gabeya undergoing trials at South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic and his teammate Sankhani Mkandawire is also wanted by another South Africa club Black Leopards.
