Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Nicholas Dausi, has assured people of Mwanza that governments will soon construct a stadium as one way of promoting sports in the district.
Dausi who is government spokesperson said this on Sunday when he launched the Nicholas Dausi Football and Netball Bonanza at Mwanza Community Center Ground.
He said the stadium will not only help people of Mwanza but also address shortage of playing grounds for super league teams.
“The stadium will provide a platform for the youth to showcase their talents in the district, whilst also solving the problem of inadequate playing grounds for super league teams,” he explained.
He added that government has allocated a sizable amount of money in the 2017/2018 national budget for youth development as it realizes the need to promote sports development in the country.
The minister also called upon the private sector to invest in sport development, saying government needs support from other partners to develop the sports sector.
District Commissioner for Mwanza, Humphreys Gondwe, concurred with Dausi on the need for the district to have its own stadium saying that it would help the council to generate more revenue that would help in other development endeavors.
