It’s on! Standard’s Blue Mingoli concert set for Nov 5 in Lilongwe
It’s on! Standard Bank is proud to announce that this year’s Blue Mingoli Music concert will take place on November 5 at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Head of Marketing & Communications Thoko Unyolo said the show will maintain its legacy of inviting an international musician and a local musician in line with the goal of promoting the development of budding artists in Malawi.
“We are thrilled to be returning to the big stage with Blue Mingoli this November, and we ask customers and music lovers alike to look forward to a memorable experience with the blue sound of music on November 5th,” she said.
The names of the headline international and local musicians are under lock and key, but will be unveiled shortly.
“Based on the success of last year’s show with South Africa’s LIRA, we are working on bringing an Afro-pop musician commanding a bigger appeal and repertoire. The international artist will share the stage with a local contemporary musician. We shall unmask the names soon,” she said.
Unyolo said this year’s Blue Mingoli concert is under the theme “More than Music”, to underscore the connections that the concert creates by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds. This year’s concert will also be supported by other activities focusing on the arts and culture.
“A Blue Mingoli Concert every summer gives us the opportunity to connect with both new and existing customers and to give back something to Malawians who love to unwind to a popular Afro-beat that comes with a ting of jazz,” Unyolo said.
Now in its fourth year, Blue Mingoli is the Malawian version of international jazz concerts that the Standard Bank group hosts around Africa.
Previous artists brought by the bank include platinum Grammy Award-winning jazz maestro, Earl Klugh and South African award-winning artistes Zahara and Lira.
