A group of young men who were hired by the governing Democrtaic Progressive Party (DPP) to torch a vehicle which carried public address system during the Human Rights Commission (HRDC) Thursday protests camped at the party regional office over night demanding payment.
A source said the ‘thugs for hire’, known as the Nyaphaphi gang, used a vehicle which is owned by a DPP member of parliament in Blantyre.
“After their assignment, they were told to wait at the DPP regional office for their payment but no one showed up, they have spent the night at the offices,” said Nyasa Times source.
Police spokesperson for the southern region Augustus Nkhwazi said the police have opened an investigation on the matter.
“We have already taken statements from the driver and the DJ who were in the vehicle. We are just working on leads to arrest the thugs,” said Nkhwazi.
