Two Chinese held in Malawi for illegal possession of foreign currency

Fiscal and Fraud Section of Police in Blantyre on Tuesday arrested two Chinese national, Slibing Gu aged 43 and Jang Peng aged 41 for found in possession of 2, 300 Metcash and US$9, 765 without supporting documents in their bedroom in Limbe.

Blantyre Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Lameck Thembachako said on April 23, Police in Blantyre under fiscal and fraud section received a tip from members of the public that the first suspect, Slibing Gu who owns a shop in Limbe was also illegally dealing in foreign currency (black market).

Thembachako said upon receipt of such information, the police made follow ups and search was conducted in the shop where no foreign currency was found or detected.chinese-

“After that the police also conducted a similar search in their house where 2, 300 Metcash were found in the first suspect’s bedroom and $9, 765 (United States dollar) were found in the second suspect’s bedroom without supporting documents respectively,” said Thembachako.

The two will appear before Blantyre Magistrate Court on Thursday where they are expected to answer the charges of found in possession of foreign currency without supporting documents.
