Unicef donates five vehicles to Malawi govt for Labour ministry
Unicef has donated five motor vehicles to the Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development towards easing mobility challenges in some district youth offices in the country.
The presentation ceremony was held Wednesday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Speaking in an interview after handing over the vehicles, a representative from Unicef Malawi Kimanzi Muthengi said the vehicles will support a number of activities the Ministry is implementing in partnership with Unicef.
“We work with government in finding out which areas government need logistical support. We have a platform called Action for Adolescent Initiative and it needs adequate resources for district youth officers to reach out many youths and places,” Muthengi said.
He said Unicef is committed to work with government in empowering the youth in the country.
Minister responsible Francis Kasaila received the vehicles on behalf of the Ministry.
He said the vehicles will help youth officers to engage all youths in various activities irrespective of their locations.
“This donation will help in finding out what our youth are doing in different rural areas and how best we can assist them,” Kasaila said.
The minister, therefore, appealed for proper care of the vehicles from all the offices that will benefit from this donation.
