US-based Malawian on fund-raising for underprivileged students
US-based Malawian student MacRester Zacarias has a charity project called ‘A is for Africa’ aimed at raising funds to help underprivileged children in Malawi with tuition fees and other school accessories.
The link of his post on gofundme.com is also on Facebook that says so far 18 children have been helped since the project was launched.
“Our Malawian Initiative has raised 330 US dollars (MK250,000) so far. Our goal is to raise 3,000 US dollars (MK2.25 million) and put at least 100 kids into school supporting them with books, uniforms and any needs,” the post says. “Thanks to all who have been so supportive.
“My goal is to aid 100 children this coming term to continue secondary school education. 30 US dollars will guarantee a seat in a classroom for one child.
“I believe education is our natural right and that every child deserves to learn. Education is the only hope for most of these kids. Therefore, give a Malawian child all the reasons to be thankful for the gift of learning this Christmas.”
He says, he has been working to find grants for the project and he is in the process of registering an NGO with Council for Non-Governmental Organisation of Malawi (CONGOMA).
