Welkam Phiri, Mbilizi secure glory in Airtel golf: Pictorial
Blantyre based entrepreneur Welkam Phiri and ladies’ top golfer Roza Mbilizi on Saturday emerged the winners for the 2015 Airtel Malawi Golf Tournament at Limbe Sports Country Club in a 104-strongfield before a chilly weather.
Phiri scooped the men’s division with 41 points with Sope Kayira coming second on 40 points, while teenager Aadil Parkar finished third with 38 points.
“It was not easy to perfectly direct your shot with the chilly weather,” Phiri said.
In the women’s division, Roza Mbilizi finished top with 38 points, while Lilian Kawaza came second with the same number of points only that she was out countered by Mbilizi.
In terms of prizes, champions Phiri and Mbilizi each carried home an Apple iPad Air Min with 16GB memory, a Nike golf stand bag, 2GB flash disk and a trophy.
Kayira, who came second, went home with Nike Golf stand Bag, Samsung S3 NEO I 9300, flash Disk 2 GB and a trophy.
The third position golfer, Parker received Putter, flash disk 2 GB and a trophy.
Kawaza went away with Putter, Samsung S3 NEO I 9300, a trophy and a flash disk.
In her speech, Airtel Malawi Head of Enterprise Business, Rachel Mijiga congratulated the winners, and revealed that this year Airtel is going to sponsor a total of 5 comprehensive golf tournaments in all the regions of the country.
Mijiga said it was inspiring to see some golfers that featured in the regional tournament in Uganda gracing Saturday’s tournament.
“Our relationship with golfers as a brand continues to grow from strength to strength. Our continued investment in the sport of golf augurs well with our recently unveiled ‘It’s now brand’ philosophy,” said Mijiga.
She also assured the golfers of Airtel Malawi’s total commitment to offer its customers the best of innovate products and services in order to help them their realize dreams.
“Airtel is proud of you and remember, the Airtel golf fete continues with our next individual stableford tourney at Nchalo Golf club on the 27th of July,” she said.
Mijiga thanked the golfers for defying the stinging chilly weather to patronise the event in their large numbers.
