Westgate opens showroom for Defy products in Lilongwe
Westgate Investment Limited, local dealers for Defy products have opened a new showroom in Lilongwe’s Old Town, where retailers will have an opportunity of purchasing state-of-the-art products from Defy Appliances Limited from a properly set up business premise.
Westgate Investments Limited have been the local distributers for Southern Africa’s largest manufacturer of major domestic appliances since 2005 but local customers did not have an opportunity of sampling the products from a properly set up business environment.
However, with the launch of the new showroom, the South African based company through the local agent is expected to offer much improved services to Malawian retailers.
“The idea to open a showroom in Lilongwe started about two to three years ago, when Defy expressed its willingness to bring the Malawi business to the next level. This was a direct response to the growing business and increased demand of defy products locally.
“As an agent, we are pleased that the dream has now come true. People should come to the new showroom located in Kampala Building in Area 2 and see the range of products in stock,” said Westgate Investment manager Yunus Pandor during a cocktail reception organised Tuesday at Crossroads Hotel to celebrate the launch.
According to Pandor, Westgate had been operating from a warehouse within town before opening of the new showroom.
Exports Sales Executive for Defy South Africa Christo Hitge said the launch of the new showroom would offer peace of mind for Malawian retailers as they will be assured that they are buying genuine defy products with back up services: “Customers will now be assured of stability in prizes, warranty services, back-up spares and other benefits,” he said.
Hitge disclosed that the South African firm through its local agent would be opening another showroom with same standards in Blantyre.
During the cocktail reception, Defy conducted a raffle draw, which saw five lucky winners walking away with fridges, washing machines and other defy products.
Amongst the products on offer in the new showroom include refrigerators, air conditioners, microwave ovens, electric and gas stoves, washers and dryers, washing machines.
A total of R1 million (About MK40m) has been invested by the South African firm in the new showroom.
