“Heads must roll!” Advocacy group NAP demands sacking of NOCMA officials over K700million cash disaster
The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has launched a blistering attack on Malawi’s state-owned fuel company, demanding the immediate sacking of senior officials linked to a catastrophic K700 million payment blunder that has left the organisation’s financial controls in tatters.
The controversial payment was made by the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) after the company received communication purporting to change a supplier’s banking details — a red flag that NAP insists should never have slipped through the net.
In a scathing statement, NAP made clear it refuses to treat the incident as a mere administrative slip-up, arguing instead that the payment exposes gaping holes in financial oversight, due diligence and institutional accountability at the top of the state fuel giant.
“Personally accountable” — NAP demands dismissals
NAP chairperson Benedicto Kondowe and national coordinator Baxton Nkhoma didn’t mince their words, demanding the immediate dismissal of every official responsible for the fiasco.
The pair insisted that those entrusted with safeguarding taxpayers’ money must face personal consequences when failures of this magnitude occur on their watch.
Going further still, NAP called for the wholesale dissolution of the entire NOCMA board, alongside a full forensic investigation into how the transaction was ever allowed to proceed — and demanded the immediate recovery of the missing K700 million.

The advocacy body pressed hard on the central, unanswered question gripping the nation: how a payment of such staggering magnitude could reportedly be processed off the back of a mere change in a supplier’s banking details, seemingly without any meaningful verification taking place.
NAP is now demanding that authorities determine conclusively whether the catastrophic loss stemmed from sheer negligence, reckless decision-making, deliberate wrongdoing, or — more troublingly — possible collusion from within NOCMA itself.
“Can’t hide behind the word scam” — NAP issues stark warning
In a pointed rebuke to the fuel company, NAP warned that public institutions cannot simply hide behind the word “scam” whenever internal controls collapse and allow public money to vanish.
The organisation was unequivocal in its closing demand: accountability cannot begin and end with recovering the lost funds. Heads, NAP insists, must roll — with those whose actions or failures enabled the disastrous transaction facing the sack, not simply a slap on the wrist.
