Yeremiah loses court battle to keep his job —Attorney General warns BWB “like a headless organisation”

The suspended chief executive of Blantyre Water Board has suffered a fresh legal blow after the High Court stripped him of the injunction that had been keeping him in his job.

Judge Allan Muhome ruled against Yeremia Chihana this morning, granting an urgent application by Attorney General Frank Mbeta to discharge the stay and injunction the embattled boss had previously secured.

Mbeta didn’t mince his words in court, warning that the water utility was teetering on the brink of collapse without clear leadership.

“BWB is like a headless organisation. There are fears that Blantyre might run dry if the status quo remains,” he told the court — a pointed reference to reports that BWB employees have physically shut down Chihana’s office amid the ongoing power struggle.

Chihana’s lawyer, Michael Goba Chipeta, was tight-lipped outside court, refusing to comment to waiting journalists and insisting he had “no instructions to talk to the press.”

The ruling means Chihana will now be forced to remain at home, locked out of the role he has fought fiercely to hold onto, as he waits for his case to be heard at the Supreme Court of Appeal.
